It produces rich dark red stems that are almost black, then peels off to reveal smooth grey bark. Responds very well to pruning, it produces denser foliage and can be kept as a shrub if pruned.
With any new tree there is a learning curve of how best to grow it. With something so revolutionary as Vintage Red™ Eucalyptus, the learning curve was steeper. Standard practices needed to be tweaked.
The real breakthrough came with elite understock was sourced through the CSIRO. The results have been amazing. The original common understock created problems, often with the graft growing quicker than the understock.
The new elite understock has totally transformed this tree. Growing advanced trees of Eucalyptus is difficult as they often outgrow the containers and become stretched.
Through trialling, the growers have now found that it responds extremely well to pruning, far better than most Eucalyptus. Pruning makes it easier for the growers to grow and is resulting in a much higher quality tree.
